A Brave Heart – Week Eighteen: String Art

And then my soul saw you and it kind of went “Oh there you are. I’ve been looking for you.” – pleasefindthis, I Wrote This For You

I don’t know if I believe in soul mates but I certainly believe in people who light up your soul. My Husband is one of those people and this weeks project is dedicated to him.

Every day we make so many decisions, some with outcomes we cannot predict. At times these decisions require us to be brave and do things we never thought we could or would do.  One of my life changing decisions was the moment I decided to be brave and introduce myself to Mr T (Hubby).

I had wanted to learn to play golf. So my Dad took me to a driving range not far from where I lived. This started a bit of an obsession and I was finding myself practicing at the range almost every week. It was during this time I noticed a handsome man working in the pro shop, Mr T of course. I tried my hardest over the coming weeks to get his attention. I’d say ‘hi’ and occasionally find reasons to ask him questions about golf. All to no avail. So one day after much deliberation and personal conflict I plucked up the courage to ask him out for a drink. And much to my excitement, he said yes.

Many years, adventures, endless games of golf, trials and tribulations and a beautiful daughter later here we are; Mr and Mrs, working hard at the happily ever after. And all of this is due to a single moment of being brave and following my heart.

My project this week was inspired by a craft tutorial pin on string art by UsefulDIY.com.

It’s a lovely idea of creating string art celebrating where you and your significant other met. You are supposed to mark the spot on your state map with a love heart. Unfortunately my little love heart became an abstract representation (well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it) but the sentiment is still there.

For the base I used a Japanese Wood Block, unprimed. I also used nails, embroidery thread and white acrylic paint.

Until next week… happy painting (or nailing, or sculpting, or… whatever creative pursuits you may be fulfilling).

What creative pieces would you make about important moments in your life?
