Sometimes,’ said Pooh, ‘the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.”― A.A. Milne (Winnie the Pooh).

week thirteen – part two, typography and illustration

With another Christmas come and gone and the New Year peaking its head around the corner, I have to say I feel utterly exhausted. Which is why I’m so happy I gave myself the breathing space I needed to complete this project. And was able to do so, with a whole lot of love.

week-13-part-two-detailIn the end I decided to use pen, metallic ink and gouache. The gouache was perfect for the fine detail and depth of colour I was trying to achieve. It’s also fast drying, so with limited time was really helpful. I worked on 300 gsm watercolour paper which was slightly textured and off white in colour.

I became completely lost whilst painting and enjoyed every minute. For the first time in a long time I felt like my artistic self. I wasn’t questioning what I was doing. I was just simply enjoying being creative.

I hope you all have a very happy New Year and until next week… happy painting.

Do you have a favourite painting medium you love to work with?
